Custom Watch Boxes

Almost every watch box that does not fit was measured across the case. The case is the small part. What actually decides the box is how much room a bracelet or a strap needs when it is coiled around a pillow, and that varies more between straps than between watches.

The pillow is the component that matters

A watch pillow is a stuffed bolster that the strap wraps around, holding the watch open and off the box floor. Too thin and the bracelet stays coiled tight and marks itself; too fat and a small wrist size will not close around it.

The usable range is narrower than people expect, and it depends on your strap. Send a watch on the strap you sell it with, and we will size the pillow to the middle of your adjustment range rather than to a standard.

A steel bracelet needs a noticeably larger box than the same watch head on leather. If you sell both, size for the bracelet.

Where a watch gets damaged inside its own box

Every one of those is a dimension problem rather than a materials problem, which is why we ask for a real watch rather than a specification sheet.

  • The case back, against a hard insert floor — the most common scuff, and it is invisible until sold.
  • The crown, against a side wall on a box sized too tightly across the width.
  • The crystal, against the lid, on a box that is deep enough for the strap but not the head.
  • The clasp, against itself, when the bracelet is coiled too tight around a thin pillow.

Builds, and what each says about the price

A hinged box has a mechanical joint that has to survive thousands of openings, and a cheap hinge failing is worse than no hinge at all. A drawer box gets a similar sense of occasion with nothing to break.

The paperwork problem

Watches usually ship with a warranty card, an instruction booklet, sometimes a spare link bag and a strap tool. All of that has to go somewhere, and if it goes loose in the box it moves in transit and knocks against the watch.

A compartment under the pillow, or a card sleeve inside the lid, holds the paperwork flat and away from the movement. It is a small addition at the dieline stage and impossible to add afterwards.

Getting it to the customer intact

A presentation watch box is heavy, hard-cornered and has a lid that can lift. On its own in the post it arrives scuffed at the corners even when the watch is fine, and a scuffed box on a watch at this price point reads as a used item.

Ship it inside a corrugated outer with clearance on all six sides. The construction that protects small rigid boxes in the post is covered across our jewelry packaging range.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question about watch boxes? The answers below cover what we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it with a brief, message us on WhatsApp, or call +1 503-461-4788 — we reply the same working day.

What is the minimum order?

100 boxes, built to your watch and strap.

What dimensions do you need?

A real watch on the strap you sell it with. Case width alone cannot size a box that has to hold a coiled bracelet.

Hinged or drawer?

Drawer, unless the hinge is part of the brand. A hinge is a mechanism that can fail; a drawer achieves the same effect with nothing to break.

Where does the warranty card go?

Under the pillow or in a lid sleeve. Loose paperwork slides in transit and marks the watch.

Do I need an outer for shipping?

Yes. A presentation box posted alone arrives with damaged corners, which at this price reads as a returned unit.

Can the pillow be sized for different straps?

It should be. A steel bracelet needs a noticeably larger box than the same head on thin leather.

What dimensions do you need from me?

A real watch on the strap you sell, ideally. Case width alone is not enough to size a box that has to hold a coiled bracelet.
