Rigid or folding — it decides the whole build
A rigid box is grayboard wrapped in printed paper. It arrives assembled, holds its shape under a stack, and feels heavier than it is. A folding carton ships flat, costs a third as much to store and post, and folds up in seconds. Neither is better; they answer different questions.
The test is where the box is filled. If your team packs on a bench, rigid wins on presentation. If the box travels flat to a fulfillment center, folding wins on every line of the cost sheet.

What goes wrong in the post
Gift boxes fail at the corners. A wrapped rigid box with an unsupported corner will show a white crease after one drop, and white creases photograph badly. The fix is either a darker wrap that hides the score, or an outer shipper so the gift box never touches a conveyor.
If the box is going direct to a recipient rather than to a shop, plan for the outer at the quote stage. It is cheaper than the replacement rate on a bare rigid box.
Foil and gloss lamination both scuff. On a box that ships naked, soft-touch matte with a spot gloss survives handling far better than an all-over foil.
Filling the space
For sets that need a fitted cavity rather than loose fill, our fitted insert builds show the tolerances we work to.
- Die-cut paperboard trays hold a set in position and print on the same press as the box.
- Crinkle or shred is cheap and forgiving, but it moves and the product ends up at the bottom.
- Molded pulp cradles fragile items and reads as considered rather than cheap.
- Ribbon pulls cost pennies and are the single most reliable way to make a lid feel deliberate.
Seasonal runs need a different conversation
Christmas and Ramadan gift runs are quoted on a deadline, not on a price. Board mills and foil suppliers both tighten from about September, and a spec that is available in June may be six weeks out in October.
Tell us the date the boxes have to be filled, not the date you want them delivered. We work backwards from the fill date and flag anything in the spec that will not make it.

What is the minimum order for gift boxes?
100 boxes, on any build. Below that you are paying mostly for the die and the press set-up rather than for boxes.
Rigid or folding — which should I choose?
Rigid if the box is part of the present and will be kept. Folding if it is opened and recycled, which is cheaper and ships flat.
Can you match a specific brand color?
Closely in four-color print, exactly with a spot color. We will tell you which one your artwork needs rather than guess.
Do you make the inserts as well?
Yes — die-cut card, layered platforms, molded pulp or foam, quoted as their own line so you can see what each costs.
Can the boxes be posted as they are?
Rigid gift boxes arrive corner-crushed if posted alone. Ship them inside a plain outer, or have the box built as a shipper from the start.
How much does a magnetic closure add?
Enough to be a real decision on a small box. It is worth it where the box is opened in front of people, and wasted where it is opened once.
Do you offer samples?
We send a plain unprinted sample at the finished size before artwork is signed off, because corner quality and lid fit cannot be judged from a drawing.
What artwork do you need?
Vector where possible, 300dpi where not, in CMYK with 3 mm bleed. Send what you have and we will tell you what is missing.
Can I reorder the same box later?
Yes, and it is cheaper — the die is cut once and kept, so a reorder skips straight to press.
Which markets do you ship to?
United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, priced in the currency of the delivery country.
Rigid or folding for a first order?
Folding, unless the box is the product. Rigid tooling and assembly make a small first run expensive, and you learn more from 500 folding boxes than from 100 rigid ones.
Can I get a magnetic closure at 100 units?
Yes, though the magnet and the deeper wall put it near the top of the price range at that quantity. It gets much cheaper at 500.
Will foil survive posting?
Not unscratched on a bare box. Inside an outer shipper it is fine. On a box that posts naked, a deboss reads as premium and does not scuff.
Do you print the inside?
Yes, on folding cartons at little extra cost, and on rigid boxes by using a printed inner wrap. Inside print is the surface the recipient looks at longest.
