Metallized film or real foil under the gold

For coffee, supplements and anything shelf-stable for months, foil. For confectionery, cosmetics and gifts, metallized PET is usually enough and looks brighter.

Metallized PET (VMPET)Bright gold, lighter barrier, lower cost; most gold bags
Aluminum foil laminateDeeper gold, best barrier against light, oxygen and moisture
Matte goldA matte lacquer over either; hides fingerprints, reads premium

Printing over gold: the two ways it works

Print a solid white under the artwork and you get normal colors on a gold field. Leave the white out and the ink goes over the metal, so every color picks up the shimmer — a red becomes a metallic red, a black stays glossy black. Most designs use both: white under the text and product shot, gold left open around it. The proof marks which areas are which, because on screen they look identical.

Where the metal is the barrier rather than the finish, the same structures do the work in a plain foil storage bag for a fraction of the print cost.

Formats in gold

Our mylar bag range in every finish covers the same formats in silver, black, clear-window and printed film.

  • Stand-up pouch with zipper and bottom gusset — the shelf format.
  • Flat three-side-seal bag — samples, single serves, sachets.
  • Flat-bottom (box-pouch) — coffee and larger fills; stands square.
  • Child-resistant zipper pouch where the contents require it.

Sizing to a fill weight, not a bag size

Bags are specified by what they hold: 50 g, 250 g, 1 lb. The bag dimensions follow from the product density — coffee beans need far more volume than powder for the same weight — so we size from the product, and a plain sample confirms the fill and the headspace before print. Under-filled gold bags look empty; the metal shows every slack area.

Gold shows scuffs in transit more than matte films. A matte gold lacquer or a shipper with dividers keeps them clean.

What the gold bag says, and where it is used

Premium coffee and tea, chocolate and confectionery, cosmetics and bath products, supplements, and gift and festive editions where a standard bag looks ordinary. It is a signal of price, so it belongs on the product in the range that carries one.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question about gold mylar bags? The answers below cover what we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it with a brief, message us on WhatsApp, or call +1 503-461-4788 — we reply the same working day.

Is the gold real foil?

It can be. Most gold bags use a metallized PET layer, which is bright and cheaper; a foil laminate gives a deeper gold and a stronger barrier. The quote lists which.

Can I print colors on a gold bag?

Yes. With a white layer under the artwork the colors print normally; without it they take on the metallic shimmer. Most designs mix the two.

Do gold bags block light?

Yes, both metallized and foil grades are opaque, which matters for coffee, supplements and anything that degrades in light.

Can I have a window in a gold bag?

Yes, a clear window is cut into the front. It reduces the light barrier on that panel.

What is the minimum order?

100 bags.

Are they food safe?

Yes. The inner layer that touches the product is food-grade PE.

Are gold mylar bags recyclable?

Standard laminates are not widely recyclable. A mono-material PE bag with a metallic print effect is available where recyclability matters more than the barrier.

Do they scuff?

Gloss gold shows scuffs more than other films. A matte gold lacquer reduces it, and packing them in a divided shipper helps.

Can I add a coffee valve?

Yes, a one-way degassing valve is fitted on request for fresh-roasted coffee.

What sizes do you make?

Any size from a few grams to several kilograms. We size from the fill weight and the product, not from a chart.

Can I get a sample?

A plain bag at the finished size, so you can check the fill and headspace before printing.

Do you ship outside the US?

Yes: United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, quoted in the delivery currency.
