Custom Essential Oil Boxes
An essential oil carton is one of the smallest boxes we make and one of the most heavily regulated. Undiluted oils carry hazard and allergen wording in most markets, and that text has to be legible on a box that is often under 30 mm across.

Measure the dropper, not the bottle
Essential oil bottles are supplied with an orifice reducer and a cap, and the assembled height is what has to fit. A carton sized to a bare bottle will not close over the same bottle with its cap on, which is how it will actually be packed.
Roller bottles are worse, because the roller ball housing sits proud of the neck and adds height that is easy to overlook. Send an assembled bottle rather than a specification.
Amber and cobalt glass varies more between batches than clear glass. Measure a few, not one.

The oil will find its way into the board
Essential oils are aggressive solvents. A drop on the inside face of an uncoated carton wicks into the fiber, spreads outward and shows on the printed face as a translucent stain that will not dry out.
Some oils — citrus, mint, clove — are worse than others and can lift certain inks. A coated inner face is the reliable answer, and for a set box a coated tray as well as a coated carton.

Holding a small heavy bottle upright
Glass against glass is the failure mode in any set. The divider does not need to be strong — it needs to be present between every pair of bottles.
| 5–10 ml single | Snug tuck carton; the bottle itself resists movement |
|---|---|
| 15–30 ml single | Carton with a card collar, or the bottle rattles |
| Roller bottle | Extra height for the housing; collar at the shoulder |
| Set of 3–6 | Die-cut divided tray, one well per bottle |
| Set of 10+ | Rigid box with a full insert; the tray becomes the product |

What has to be printed, on very little space
On a 25 mm carton this fills two panels. Lay it out first at a size that can actually be read — shrinking it to fit the design is the mistake that forces a reprint.
- Botanical name and the plant part, which serious buyers check.
- Volume, batch and a best-before or expiry.
- Hazard wording and allergen declarations where the market requires them.
- Dilution guidance, which is safety information rather than marketing.
- A responsible-person address for UK and EU sale.

Selling a product nobody can smell through the box
The purchase decision is scent and provenance, and a closed carton conveys neither. What works is naming the origin plainly on the front — the country, the distillation, the plant part — rather than adjectives.
A window is rarely useful here, because the glass is amber or cobalt to protect the oil and there is nothing to see through it. The finish and print choices that do the work are the ones described in our cosmetic carton guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Got a question about essential oil boxes? The answers below cover what we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it with a brief, message us on WhatsApp, or call +1 503-461-4788 — we reply the same working day.
Why is there a stain on my boxes?
Oil has wicked into uncoated board. A coated inner face prevents it; once it has happened it cannot be dried out.
What size carton for a 10 ml bottle?
It depends on the cap and orifice reducer, not the bottle. Send an assembled bottle and we size to it.
Do I need dividers in a set box?
Yes. Glass against glass is how sets break, and a thin card divider between every pair is enough.
Can you write my safety wording?
No. We lay out whatever you supply and reserve the space for it; the wording has to be yours.
What is the minimum order?
100 cartons, singles or sets.
Which oils are worst for the board?
Citrus, mint and clove — they stain fastest and can lift some inks. Tell us what is in the blend.
