The stack has to be held, not just contained
Cookies in a loose pile transmit every impact through the whole stack, and the ones at the bottom take all of it. What stops that is not a stronger box but something that keeps the stack still: a snug tube, a divided insert, or a tray with individual wells.
A cheap and very effective answer is to size the box so the stack cannot tip. A tall narrow column of biscuits with 2 mm of clearance travels far better than the same biscuits with room to slide.
If they must travel loose, fill the headspace. An air gap above the stack is where the breakage energy comes from.

Fat, moisture and the board underneath
A butter-rich biscuit will grease uncoated board within days, and the mark shows through to the outside. Grease-resistant board handles it, and a paper case or liner handles it even more cheaply on a gift box.
The opposite problem is worse. Biscuits go soft in humidity, and a carton alone slows that by almost nothing. Anything sold with a shelf life needs an inner barrier — a sealed film bag or a foil liner — with the printed carton as the outer.
Windows on a home-baked look
If the biscuits are inside a sealed inner bag, a window in the outer carton costs you nothing and shows the product. That combination is the one most brands should be using.
- A window proves the biscuit is irregular, which for an artisan product is the selling point.
- It also lets moisture in and out, which shortens the useful shelf life.
- A filmed window keeps the barrier and fogs on anything packed warm.
- On decorated cookies the window is nearly mandatory — the decoration is the product.
Gift boxes and the second life of the tin idea
The biscuit tin exists because people keep them. A rigid cookie box does the same job in board, gets kept for the same reason, and is far cheaper to print well and to post.
