The tray

Food-grade board, grease-resistant in the sheet, folded into a tray with locked or glued corners. Kraft or white, unprinted. It is sized to the portion plus a few millimeters, and it can take a clear PET lid for wet or fresh food before the sleeve goes on. Our foot-lock trays that fold without glue are the tray most often used under a sleeve.

The sleeve

  • 300–350 gsm coated board, printed full color, laminated matte or gloss.
  • Cut to the tray girth plus about 1 mm, so it slides with friction and does not fall off.
  • A window on the top face, filmed or open, over the food.
  • A tab or a sticker on the end for a tamper seal.

Why split the box

One tray serves many products. A café with ten sandwiches runs one tray and ten sleeves, or one tray and one sleeve with a sticker per filling. Sleeves are cheap to change, trays are bought in a long run, and the print never touches the food. The label — ingredients, allergens, date — is on the sleeve.

The sleeve is removed before a ready meal is heated. Print "remove sleeve" on it; it is the instruction most often missed.

Speed at the counter

A tray folds in a second, the food goes in, the sleeve slides on: three motions. Trays and sleeves ship flat in separate bundles and take little space. A hundred sets is a trial; a café runs a few hundred a day.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question about tray sleeve boxes? The answers below cover what we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it with a brief, message us on WhatsApp, or call +1 503-461-4788 — we reply the same working day.

Why a tray and a sleeve rather than one box?

One tray serves many products; the sleeve changes with the filling. Print never touches the food, and sleeves are cheap to change.

Can the sleeve have a window?

Yes, on the top face, filmed or open.

Is the tray food safe?

Yes, food-grade, grease-resistant board, unprinted.

Can the tray have a clear lid under the sleeve?

Yes, a PET lid for sushi, poke and fresh food.

How does the sleeve stay on?

It is cut to the tray girth plus about 1 mm and slides with friction. A tab or a sticker seals the end.

What is the minimum order?

100 sets.

Where does the ingredients label go?

On the sleeve, with allergens and the date.

Can it be used for ready meals?

Yes, with "remove sleeve" printed on it, because the sleeve comes off before heating.

Does it ship flat?

Yes, trays and sleeves in separate bundles.

Can one sleeve serve many fillings?

Yes, with a sticker per filling on a common sleeve.

Kraft or white tray?

Either. Kraft reads natural; white reads clean. Both are unprinted.

Do you ship outside the US?

Yes, to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, quoted in the delivery currency.
