Custom Nail Polish Boxes

Three properties, three separate packaging problems. The carton has to stop the bottle tipping, survive being dropped once, and not be attacked by what is inside if a cap leaks.

Measure the cap, not the bottle

Polish caps are wider and taller than the bottle beneath them, and the cap is what sets the carton footprint. Brands routinely send us the bottle dimensions and get a carton the cap will not go into.

Send both, or send a full bottle with its cap on. We build the die to the widest point plus 1–2 mm, and set the height from the top of the cap rather than the shoulder.

Brush-in-cap designs vary by supplier even at the same nominal volume. Measure your actual component.

Top-heavy means the base does the work

A polish bottle carries most of its mass in the glass base but the cap adds height, and a plain tuck bottom will burst if the carton is dropped upright. A locking tuck or a crash-lock base holds where a friction tuck does not.

For sets of three or more, a paperboard divider is not optional — glass against glass in a dropped box breaks, and the divider costs a fraction of the returns.

Solvent, and why the inner face matters

Nail polish is largely solvent. A leaking cap against uncoated board will soften it and wick a stain outward, and a set carton that has one leaker becomes six unsellable units.

A coated inner face contains a small leak long enough to notice it. It costs very little and it is the difference between one damaged bottle and one damaged pack.

Where the ingredient panel goes

Polish carries a long INCI list and, in several markets, additional warnings. On a carton this narrow that panel is genuinely hard to fit, and it is the constraint that most often forces a redesign late.

We mark the mandatory area on the dieline first, the same way described in our cosmetic carton notes, so the design is drawn around it rather than into it.

Frequently asked questions

Got a question about nail polish boxes? The answers below cover what we get asked most. If yours is not here, send it with a brief, message us on WhatsApp, or call +1 503-461-4788 — we reply the same working day.

What is the minimum order?

100 cartons per shade, sharing one dieline across the range.

What dimensions do you need?

The bottle with its cap on. The cap is usually the widest point and it is what has to fit.

Why do my bottles rattle?

The carton was sized to the bottle body. A card collar at the shoulder holds it without a tighter box.

Does the inner face need coating?

For solvent-based polish, yes. Solvent vapour and any weeping will mark uncoated board.

Where does the ingredient panel go?

Reserved on the dieline before design starts — on a carton this narrow it takes most of one face.

Can I run twelve shades at 100 each?

Yes. One tool, one board, a different print file per shade.

Why does my carton not fit the bottle?

Almost always because it was sized to the bottle rather than the cap. The cap is the widest and tallest point.

Do I need dividers in a set?

For three or more bottles, yes. Glass against glass breaks in a dropped box and takes the whole pack with it.

Can polish damage the box?

A leaking cap will soften uncoated board and stain outward. A coated inner face contains it long enough to catch.

Will a window work on a polish carton?

Yes, and it shows the color, which is the main selling point. Keep it away from the folds — 12 mm clear of any crease.
