Packaging for California, where the rules arrive first
California legislates packaging ahead of the rest of the US, and what passes here usually reaches the other states within a few years. Specifying for it is less about the box than about what the box is allowed to be made of.

Two rules that change the specification
SB 54 pushes all single-use packaging in the state toward being recyclable or compostable, with producer responsibility attached. In practice that means film lamination on a food or consumer box is a decision with a cost attached rather than a free finish.
Proposition 65 is a labeling rule, not a materials rule, but it catches packaging components more often than brands expect — particularly inks and adhesives on imported stock. We can supply component declarations for anything we print.
Nothing here is legal advice. It is what we get asked, and what we can document when you ask us to.
What California brands actually order
The mix is unlike anywhere else we ship. Beauty and skincare from Los Angeles and Orange County, specialty food and beverage from the Bay Area and the Central Valley, and a long tail of direct-to-consumer brands who need a mailer that photographs well.
Almost all of it is short-run and repeat rather than one large order — which is the pattern our cosmetic carton builds are set up for.
Freight into the West Coast
Long Beach and Oakland are the entry points, and both are close enough to the major population centers that inland freight is short. That makes California one of the cheaper US states to land packaging into, and it is worth consolidating orders to take advantage of it.
If you are splitting stock between a California warehouse and one further east, tell us at quote stage — two smaller deliveries usually cost less than one delivery plus a domestic transfer.
California questions
Do you deliver to San Francisco and San Diego as well as LA?
Yes — the freight leg lands at Long Beach and forwards from there. Say which city and we quote the last leg.
Does California treat food packaging differently?
It restricts PFAS in food-contact paper more firmly than most states. Our grease-resistant boards are PFAS-free as standard.
Can I get a recyclability declaration for SB 54?
We supply component declarations for the board and inks. Whether a specific claim can be made is for your compliance adviser.
Do you quote in USD?
Yes, for every US delivery, with the freight leg included.
How do I reach you?
Call or WhatsApp +1 503-461-4788, or send a brief through the site. We reply the same working day.
Is there a minimum order for California?
The same as everywhere — 100 units.
Can you handle a rush before a Los Angeles trade show?
Tell us the date with the brief and we will say honestly whether it is achievable rather than promise and miss.
Can you supply Prop 65 documentation?
We can supply component declarations for the board, inks and adhesives we print with. Whether a warning is required is a decision for your compliance advisor, not for us.
Does SB 54 mean I cannot laminate?
No. It means a laminated box is harder to claim as recyclable and may carry a higher producer fee. Water-based soft-touch coatings get most of the look without the film.
How long does delivery take to LA?
Freight into Long Beach is the shortest leg we run into the US. Exact timing depends on the spec and the run, and it is on every quote.
