Measure the closed case at its widest
A hard eyewear case is a curved shell, widest across its middle and taller at the hinge than at the lip. A box sized to its stated dimensions will often not close, because those dimensions are usually the base rather than the widest point.
Send a case. Measure across the belly, not the base, and allow for the case bulging slightly when frames are inside it.
Soft pouches compress and hard cases do not. If you sell both, size to the hard case and the pouch will be comfortable.
What actually goes in the box
The cloth is the item most often forgotten and the easiest to accommodate — a flat bed under the case costs a few millimeters of depth and stops the cloth being stuffed in beside the hinge.
- The case, which sets almost every dimension.
- A microfibre cloth, usually flat under or beside the case.
- A care card, warranty or prescription slip.
- Sometimes a second lens set, which changes the depth entirely.
Sunglasses and prescription frames sell differently
A window works for sunglasses and is pointless for prescription frames, which the customer has already chosen at a counter and will not receive until the lenses are made.

Contact lens cartons are a different product
A lens carton carries prescription parameters, batch and expiry, and in most markets it is a medical device pack rather than a fashion one. The information is dense, the box is small, and the coding area has to stay clear for the line to print on.
That puts it much closer to the discipline in our pharmaceutical carton notes than to the rest of this range.
Rigid or folding at this price point
Eyewear is bought at a wide range of prices, and the pack sets the expectation before the frames are seen. Below about $50 retail a well-finished folding carton is entirely convincing; above it, a rigid box with a fitted insert starts to be expected.
The case does most of the perceived-quality work in either instance, which is worth remembering before spending heavily on the outer.
